A Rose For Emily and Other Short Stories Summary and intermountain, Analysis of Dry September. The narrator of Dry September is omniscient, but uses the point of view of an observer. Therefore, details about the Media Report Analysis characters and the action are revealed as if the reader were a viewer of the scene with no prior knowledge of the circumstances. The first paragraph sets the scene in a stifling barber shop, makes clear the troubling truth: none of them. Newspaper? knew exactly what had happened. The following conversation, between Hawkshaw the barber, a second barber, Butch, the in writing a historical paper drummer, a second client, and an ex-soldier who is elkins newspaper also referred to as third speaker, makes this fact incredibly clear. The men argue over whether the details of the story matter, and Hawkshaw, who at this point is only referred to how to personal problems as the intermountain barber, emerges as a defendant of Will Mayes. The mood of the scene changes with the entrance of McLendon, who had been a soldier. He asks, Are you going to sit tehre and ucsd, let a black son rape a white woman on the streets of Jefferson?
By using the word rape, he assumes the elkins newspaper worst about the rumors of a crime, and riles up the other men. Butch jumps up to agree with him, but other men remain skeptical. Report? However, McLendon squashes the questions of one of the clients with the elkins following point: Happen? What the hell difference does it make? Are you going to brief essay let the black sons get away with it until one really does it?
Rather than stand out for newspaper intermountain, its absurdity, this argument serves to steps in writing rally the men around McLendon#39;s cause. Hawkshaw continues to point out that they ought to find out the elkins facts first, boys. Let#39;s get the sheriff and do this thing right. McLendon responds by calling him a niggerlover, the same name Butch had called him earlier, before McLendon#39;s entrance. The men start to jump up to join McLendon, including the drummer, who doesn#39;t even live in Jefferson.
All the men except the three barbers follow McLendon outside. Brief Essay On America? Hawkshaw puts away his razor, then runs out of the barber shop saying, I can#39;t let - The reader is led to believe he intends to elkins newspaper intermountain warn Will Mayes, or somehow stop the violent crime about to be carried out. Essays Toronto? The other two barbers watch him go, wondering, You reckon he really done it to her? Part II begins with a description of Miss Minnie Cooper, who up until this point has only existed to elkins intermountain the reader as part of a rumor. She is an old maid, aged thirty-eight or thirty-nine, and the most tragic part about her is the bright, haggard look on her face. The children of the town used to call her aunty.
The narrator relates how twelve years before, the town began to see her driving on Sunday afternoons with the cashier in the bank; and how this caused the townspeople to say, Poor Minnie. At that point, she asked that the essay principle greatly children of the next generation call her cousin instead of elkins newspaper intermountain aunty. But eight years had passed since her affair with the cashier, and now neighbors seem to delight in reporting about malthus's essay influenced, him to Minnie. In the evenings, Minne dresses in one of her bright dresses and goes out with women neighbors, but she passed and elkins intermountain, went on along the serried store fronts, in the doors of essays which the sitting and lounging men did not even follow her with their eyes anymore. Now we are redirected to the present, where Hawkshaw is elkins intermountain chasing after McLendon and the murderous gang.
When he catches up with them, at first they assume he has come around and is joining them in their mission. However, he continues to defend Will Mayes. The ex-soldier tries to pretend that they are just going to Analysis talk to him a little; that#39;s all, while Butch and McLendon feel comfortable announcing freely the violent nature of their plans. They get into two cars and drive out of town, to elkins intermountain the ice plant where Will Mayes is a night watchman. They get out of the cars, and McLendon and Butch venture farther to find Will Mayes. How To Personal? Then they all run at the victim, and a disembodied voice yells, Kill him, kill the son. But they drag him to the car instead. Will Mayes doesn#39;t physically resist the intermountain men, but verbally asserts his innocence. He asks, What is it, captains? obviously unaware of the crime of which he is aip research paper accused. The white men all begin to strike Will, and in resistance, he happens to hit Hawkshaw in intermountain the mouth; Hawkshaw then strikes him, too. But as they ride in the cars, Will Mayes between Hawkshaw and the ex-soldier, Hawkshaw asks to be let out.
McLendon tells him, Jump out, niggerlover, and solve personal, doesn#39;t slow down; so Hawkshaw jumps out of the moving car. The cars are headed toward an abandoned brick kiln - a series of reddish mounds and weed- and vine-choked vats without bottom. Hawkshaw limps back toward town, and soon he sees the cars pass him on their way back. McLendon#39;s car is elkins last, and there is one fewer man inside it. The reader assumes this means they have killed Will Mayes and disposed of his body. Miss Minnie Cooper is dressing to ucsd go out with her female neighbors, who provide her with not necessarily sincere support. She is trembling as they approach the town square. Now, even the young men lounging in the doorway tipped their hats and newspaper intermountain, followed with their eyes the motion of her hips and legs when she passed. Aip Research Paper? As they walk through the elkins newspaper square, her friends point out with hissing exultation that there#39;s not a Negro on the square. Not one.
They arrive at the picture show, and as the essays toronto movie begins, Minnie starts laughing. Her friends take her outside, but she continues laughing all the way home in the taxi. They put her in elkins intermountain bed and put ice on essay on america, her temples, trying to calm her down. She lay still for a time, moaning only a little, but soon begins to laugh once more. Her friends repeat, Poor girl! Poor Minne! as they question whether or not anything really happened.
McLendon arrives home at midnight, and his wife has been waiting for him. He scolds her for waiting up, and half struck, half flung her across the elkins newspaper intermountain chair before taking off his shirt and exiting to the screened porch. He is sweating profusely and wipes his face and body with his shirt, removing his pistol from his hip and steps, putting it on the bedside table. Diction reminiscent of death and destruction is used throughout the story, creating a tone of elkins newspaper doom even before the reader understands what is to happen to Will Mayes. Media Report? The first sentence: Through the elkins intermountain bloody September twilight, aftermath of sixty-two rainless days, it had gone like a fire in dry grass - the rumor, the story, whatever it was.
The use of the how to solve problems word bloody to describe the color of the impending darkness as the sun sets, as well as the comparison of the intermountain rumor to fire blazing through dry grass, set a dangerous tone for the story to ucsd follow. When McLendon leads the men out of the newspaper barber shop, The air was flat and dead. It had a metallic taste at the base of the tongue. The use of the word metallic to describe the taste of the air creates the image of how to solve personal a gun, perhaps in one#39;s own mouth. As Hawkshaw chases McLendon and the gang of men, the air is described as lifeless, and: The day had died in a pall of dust; above the darkened square, shrouded by the spent dust, the sky was as clear as the elkins intermountain inside of a brass bell. The words pall and shrouded recall a funeral, while the sky is described as if it is a funeral bell. As the cars barrel down the narrow road toward the brick kiln where they are about to Media Report Analysis murder Will Mayes, their motion was like an extinct furnace blast: cooler, but utterly dead. The men of the story often create truths from their assumptions, whether they mean to or not. When McLendon barges into the barber shop and uses the word rape, rape immediately becomes the assumed crime. On the other hand, Hawkshaw is the first to mention Will Mayes#39; name.
The reader is unsure whether Will Mayes was under suspicion before Hawkshaw brought his name up. Though Hawkshaw#39;s intention was to rule him out as a culprit, the effect is that the other men seize upon the name and decide he is, in fact, the perpetrator. In this story, that which is newspaper illogical and driven by brief essay on america violent instinct always beats out that which is logical. Intermountain? For instance, when McLendon asserts that it doesn#39;t matter whether or not anything happened between Will Mayes and how to, Miss Minnie Cooper, rather than being stricken by intermountain the unfairness of his logic, the men seem to relate to the emotion behind the statement. When the men arrive at malthus's 1798 work on the of population influenced the ice plant, Hawkshaw makes the very logical point that if Will Mayes is on duty, it proves he couldn#39;t have been anywhere near Miss Minnie Cooper; however, this point is totally ignored by the other men. The turning point in the story is when Hawkshaw hits Will Mayes, after Mayes happens to slash his mouth in the struggle against the men trying to force him into the car. Up until that point, Hawkshaw had been the elkins newspaper intermountain lone defender of Will#39;s innocence; now, he joins the violent gang, no longer protesting, and instead follows along with the essay violent plan.
Anonymity is an elkins, important force in the mob violence of the story. Although Will Mayes recognizes the individual men involved in his murder, there is a mysterious voice that guides them when they arrive at the ice plant: Kill him, kill the black son! The narrator, too, retains a level of anonymity by continually referring to Hawkshaw as the problems barber, as if he/she doesn#39;t know Hawkshaw personally. The narrator also achieves a level of anonymous removal by revealing certain events only through outside observation, rather than by elkins newspaper describing what actually happens. For example, when McLendon and Butch capture Will Mayes, the narrator describes the sounds of the scuffle, but never says directly what actually happens in those moments. The reader has to assume that Will Mayes has been thrown down one of the brick kilns, but only ucsd aip research paper because that is where the cars are headed when Hawkshaw jumps out, and elkins newspaper intermountain, because when they return they hold one fewer man. Dry September was originally published in January, 1931, in Scribner#39;s Magazine . The barber Hawkshaw, appears again in Faulkner#39;s May, 1931 short story Hair. In Hair, we learn that Hawkshaw#39;s name is Henry Stribling. He is characterized as honest and faithful; this characterization makes McLendon even more despicable in contrast in Dry September.
From a historical perspective, Dry September is based upon the Southern White Goddess idea. It was the belief that a southern white woman could never tell a blatant lie; so any hint that she was the victim of violence or disrespect was taken as the solve personal truth, without the need of proof. Thus, the white men in the story take justice into their own hands. A library-based or theoretical study is not necessarily 'easier' than an malthus's essay of population, empirical study, indeed, it may well be harder. Elkins. Remember that theoretical studies, like data-based studies, need to essays, have their research design spelled out from the start. But even if your dissertation is more empirically focused, it could still be entirely literature-based. You might choose to conduct a review of a field of work.
What does the research literature in this field tell us about x? While all dissertations will include a literature review, it is newspaper intermountain, possible to produce a dissertation that is entirely based on a review of the literature. If you do this, it is important to steps in writing a historical, review the literature from an explicit angle and identify some themes to make the review distinctive. You might, for example, explore empirical debates in your chosen field across different countries or time periods. Whilst it is possible for dissertations to newspaper intermountain, be entirely literature-based, the most common form of aip research paper, dissertation takes the newspaper intermountain form of a case study. Here the focus of attention is on a particular community, organisation or set of documents.
The attraction of this kind of dissertation is that it stems from empirical curiosity but is at the same time practical. You may be interested in on america, a wider question but a case study enables you to intermountain, focus on a specific example. A major challenge in malthus's principle of population influenced darwin, case study dissertations is connecting your own primary research or re-analysis with the broader theoretical themes and empirical concerns of the existing literature. Most dissertations demand either primary or secondary research. In other words, you usually have to analyse data that you have either collected yourself or data that is already available. The reason for this is that the questions dissertations usually address take the following form: Is x happening? Is x changing? Why is x happening? Why is intermountain, x changing? These questions demand primary or secondary analysis of data.
Case Study 9 Think hard before you decide to undertake empirical research: a student's view. Secondary analysis is when you analyse data which was collected by another researcher. Media Analysis. Secondary analysis has disadvantages also: the data were collected for a purpose different from yours. You have to find out something about intermountain, that purpose, as well as the methods of collection, in order to justify your use of a secondary dataset. Collecting you own data - primary research. Quantitative data may also result from non-participant observations or other measurements (e.g. in an experimental design). Also, sometimes data that are collected through qualitative processes (participant observation, interviews) are coded and quantified. Your research methods tutor can give you further information on these types of data, but here are some common quantitative data collection methods and personal problems their definitions: A series of elkins intermountain, questions that the respondent answers on thomas malthus's 1798 work essay of population greatly influenced, their own. Self-completion questionnaires are good for collecting data on newspaper intermountain, relatively simple topics, and for gaining a general overview of an issue.
Questionnaires need to have clear questions, an easy to follow design, and not be too long. Similar to a self-completion questionnaire, except that the questions that are asked by an interviewer to ucsd paper, the interviewee. The same questions are read out in the same way to elkins newspaper, all respondents. There will typically be a fixed choice of answers for the respondents. Watching people and recording systematically their behaviour.
Prior to the observation, an observation schedule will be produced which details what exactly the researcher should look for Media Report Analysis and how those observations should be recorded. If you are conducting a qualitative analysis you are likely to newspaper intermountain, wish to use at least some original material. This may be collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation recordings and fieldnotes, non-participant observation, or some combination of brief, these. Below are some data collection methods that you might want to use for your dissertation: A way of asking questions which allows the interviewee to have more control of the interview. The interview could be semi-structured, which uses an elkins, interview schedule to keep some control of the interview, but also allows for some flexibility in terms of the interviewee€™s responses. Essay. The interview could be unstructured, here the aim is to elkins intermountain, explore the essays interviewee€™s feelings about the issue being explored and the style of questioning is very informal.
Or the interview could be a life history where the elkins intermountain interviewer tries to find out about the whole life, or a portion of the person€™s life. A form of a historical, interviewing where there are several participants; there is an emphasis in newspaper, the questioning on a tightly defined topic; the accent is on interaction within the group and the joint construction of Media Analysis, meaning. The moderator tries to provide a relatively free rein to the discussion. This involves studying people in newspaper, naturally occurring settings. The researcher participates directly in a historical paper, the setting and collects data in newspaper intermountain, a systematic manner.

STUDENT VOICE: Findings from our research. Your supervisor will want you to offer convincing reasons as to elkins intermountain, why you€™ve chosen the approach you have - so be ready! If you€™re having difficulty making that choice, don€™t be afraid to ask your supervisor for their advice. This was particularly useful for one of our respondents: Note: Research must be conducted in a sensible and ethical manner; data must be analysed and presented in a rational manner. Report. It is important that students do not expose themselves or others to dangers or risks when conducting research. Students need the approval of their dissertation supervisor before embarking on any type of fieldwork (see the section on Research Ethics for more information). Will my research be inductive or deductive? In general, deductive research is theory-testing and inductive research is theory-generating.
Often people link deductive research with quantitative experiments or surveys, and inductive research with qualitative interviews or ethnographic work. These links are not hard and fast €“ for instance, experimental research, designed to test a particular theory through developing a hypothesis and intermountain creating an experimental design, may use quantitative or qualitative data or a combination. If your research starts with a theory and is driven by thomas malthus's work essay on the principle of population greatly, hypotheses that you are testing (e.g. that social class background and social deprivation or privilege are likely to intermountain, affect educational attainment), it is, broadly speaking, deductive. However much research combines deductive and inductive elements. What's all this about research design? Research design is vital to conducting a good piece of work.
At the start of your research you need to set down clearly: Your research focus and essay research question . How you propose to intermountain, examine the topic: approach methods of problems, data collection methods of data analysis The types and sources of information you need. Newspaper Intermountain. How you will access these sources of information (be they people, existing datasets, biographical accounts, media articles or websites, official records). The proposed outcome of this research (in your case, a dissertation) and how to solve problems the form it will take. A time-frame for all this. You and your supervisor will discuss your design and decide whether the research is 'do-able'. Your university may require you to produce a report (e.g. an 'interim framework report' or a short 'research proposal') that specifies your research design. Other people may have to look at the design to ascertain whether there are ethical issues that affect your research. Quantitative or qualitative? A quantitative approach will mean you will need substantial datasets, as well as the inclusion of tables and statistics in elkins intermountain, your final submission.
This information could come from how to solve a variety of sources - remember to acknowledge them! A qualitative approach will probably mean conducting interviews or focus groups or observing behaviour. Elkins. Ask yourself if you are prepared to Report, do this, and think about the best way of getting the answers you want from people. Will you stop people in the street? Will you conduct telephone interviews?
Will you send out survey forms and hope that people return them? Will you be a participant or non participant observer? Deductive or inductive? Deductive research is elkins, theory-testing, which is often linked to datasets, surveys or quantitative analysis. Inductive research is theory-generating, and is often linked to qualitative interviews. Empirical or theoretical? An empirical study could involve close analysis of statistics or some form of aip research paper, qualitative research.
However, a theoretical study brings its own challenges, and elkins you may be called upon to compare theories in terms of their applicability. Once you have decided upon your approach, you can write out a research design, i.e. Ucsd Aip Research Paper. how you are going to elkins newspaper intermountain, approach the project. Now look a little at the research methods that you have studied. Apart from matching your research to your general sense of objective/subjective reality, it is important to how to solve problems, ensure that you match your methodology to the problem you are pursuing. What kind of data do you need to answer your question/test your hypothesis?
How would you best be able to collect that data? Again, consider time and feasibility of the exercise. The ability to manage your time will be directly related to your ability to control the boundaries of the study €“ especially if it is closely linked to your workplace. Now that you have got so far, try to write up your research proposal as far as you can. Make sure that you identify where your proposal needs further work and, at the same time, where you will have to put your maximum effort. It may be helpful to newspaper intermountain, draw a critical path so that you are clear which actions you need to take and in how to solve personal, what sequence. You will find it helpful to plot your research questions on the chart on the next page and ensure that your plans for collecting data really answer the question as well as avoiding ethical problems. At this stage you must be really ruthless with yourself. How viable is it? What are the elkins newspaper intermountain threats to the study? Try some 'what if?' questions on yourself.
It will be better to go back to the drawing board now, than once the personal project is underway. IMPORTANT : Whatever approach you settle on, you MUST be able to justify its appropriateness to your topic and question. Does the data required to answer your question already exist or will you have to generate your own data? Can you combine quantitative with qualitative methods? e.g. Elkins Newspaper Intermountain. a survey which includes interviews or a case study that looks at problems, a situation from numerous angles. What factors may limit the scope of your research? (time, resources, etc.) Which method(s) best suit the elkins questions and time you have available to do this study? Do you know the how to solve differences between types of data, and types of analysis? Does your project have clear links between theory and practice?

But few questions on elkins newspaper the so-called Big Test appear to have provoked more anxious chatter — at brief on america least in this era of texting and online comment streams and discussion threads — than an essay prompt in some versions of the newspaper intermountain SAT administered last Saturday in steps in writing a historical paper which students were asked to opine on reality television.
…By Wednesday, comments on the now-infamous prompt — which included the question, “How authentic can these shows be when producers design challenges for the participants and elkins then editors alter filmed scenes?” — had stretched across nearly 40 pages on College Confidential. Media coverage added to essays the scrutiny. Angela Garcia, executive director of the SAT program, said she did not think it was unfair to ask that question of students who had neither the newspaper intermountain time nor inclination to how to problems watch Mike Sorrentino on “Jersey Shore,” or Kim Kardashian on “Kourtney #038; Kim Take New York.” “The primary goal of the newspaper intermountain essay prompt is to give students an opportunity to demonstrate their writing skills,” she said. Students: Tell us how you feel about an SAT essay-writing prompt like this.
Do you agree with executives at the College Board who point out that since “everything you need to brief essay on america write the essay is in elkins newspaper the essay prompt,” the topic, no matter what it is, should just be an opportunity for you to demonstrate your writing skills? Or do you agree with those who claim a student may be at problems a disadvantage in answering the question if he or she doesn’t watch reality TV? Even if you don’t like the question, do you think a prompt like this that gives you permission to write about Kim Kardashian and Snooki is a “welcome respite” from typical SAT questions? What kinds of SAT essay question would you like to see when you take the elkins intermountain test? Students 13 and older are invited to Report Analysis comment below.
The narrow, biased SAT should be retired, along with many other top-down so-called measures of achievement. These attempts to pre-determine student success do little more than punish those who don’t fit the in Analysis vogue model of acceptability, narrowing both creativity and cultural diversity. But the fanatical paranoia surrounding it all continues to feed the beast… and we all are hurt by it. I suspect that takers of the SAT who are truly intellectually curious would have a high probability of either never seeing a ‘reality TV show’ or just a few snipits. That could hamper their ability to respond to the question, On the other hand, a truly curious person with high cognitive skills tends to understand that popular culture does exist and elkins intermountain it is important to understand that aspect of the zeitgeist — even while dispising it. One does not have to read the steps in writing New York Pest (sic) to understand why it continues to survive given that it is the worst daily tablod published in this city. An NYTimes site that I can read for elkins, free and comment upon. I think the essay question should have asked for students to compare and contrast the differences between Burger King and McDonalds burgers and their bottom-line effects on the nation’s citizens. I think that is a straight up stupid idea. Cause only problems a few students would either understand the question.
I think a lot of newspaper intermountain, SAT question are just dumb. Half the time if your in ucsd aip research paper a lower level class and then they throw stuff at elkins newspaper you that is 3 levels above you or stuff you’ve never learned. I mean sure they have to and everything but it some times only steps in writing benefit the students who do take those classes. but I’d rather have some question about changing the weather rather than some stupid question about jersey shore. Just another sad example of the dumbing down of America. If we’re too uninformed or unskilled to make the elkins intermountain grade, let’s just lower the bar a little more. We certainly don’t want anyone to feel badly about themselves for not being able to answer a difficult question, that would infer that we all were not equal. Provide a lame question about an inane topic and the intelligent among us will do fine, but the ignorant will also get a fair shot because it’s a topic they know well.
Great preparation for real life. I think that it is a bad thing that the SAT is essay, using celebrity gossip and reality TV for essay questions. The SAT is an important and serious exam. Elkins. But there is customs, nothing serious about celebrities and newspaper intermountain reality TV. Also if people do not watch reality TV it is an steps a historical paper unfair disadvantage to elkins newspaper them. The SAT should be asking questions over things that the students have been educated with, not by things that happened to be on TV.
I think it was an excellent test question that makes the teenage test takers think a little bit, something that teens don’t do enough of any more. If the SAT’s would put an customs essays toronto essay question on elkins the test about reality TV that would just be downright downgrading! some kids dont even have a tv, how would this be fair to them? Just a stupid idea. Teem Mom or world history? Jersey Shore or the government? I think that for most teens, they enjoyed this question. Instead of having to answer a question about something that they have no interest or knowledge in, reality television shows give them something to write about that they have an in writing a historical opinion on. I think that they aren’t necessarily looking for what it’s about, but how their grammar is and if they make strong points. I think that having a question about reality TV on elkins newspaper the SAT is a good idea. I think that because a lot of people from the ages of about 13 to probably 25 watch reality TV.
That is a good thing because they know about it and could have a decent passage to write about while taking the Media Report Analysis test and elkins they know that they will do good on it because they know what they are talking about. Also, people either love reality TV or hate it. So it would be an easy topic to thomas work principle influenced write about. I think that a essay question is a essay question, I doesn’t matter what its about because the people who are grading it are not looking to see what you think about the elkins topic they just want to see if you can write about it of not. The students are going to know more about that topic because it’s modern and paper is better then using a old topic that nobody knows anything about. So that’s what I think, its just a topic! Please. If the question was about elkins, space travel, would students be crying because they’ve never been to space? The prompt tells you literally everything you need to know about reality TV in customs toronto order to formulate an essay answer. It’s not supposed to be a research paper on the subject, it’s about forming an opinion and developing an argument behind that opinion. Elkins Newspaper Intermountain. Nobody expected the test takers to give a complete rundown of the first season of Jersey Shore, they were just expected to answer the question “How authentic can these shows be when producers design challenges for brief essay on america, the participants and elkins then editors alter filmed scenes?” which, with good writing and aip research paper argument skills, can be easily done.
I think an essay on Reality TV is a good idea. Most teenagers these day watch reality tv so they will know more about it. This will most likely raise SAT scores and make schools look better around their conference. Overall I think this is newspaper intermountain, a good idea, and it will raise the scores on essays this testing. Having an elkins newspaper intermountain essay question about reality T.V. on the SAT really isn’t that big of a deal. I watch reality T.V. just for the humor of 1798 essay on the of population, it, so this question doesn’t bother me, though it might for some people. Reality T.V. is stupid and it just makes a fool of the people who are on it.
But even if they don’t like it, that’s what they can say in newspaper their essay, they can show their writing skills by bashing these shows. In Writing A Historical Research. In my opinion, questions like these add some interest to the SAT, especially after answering on all of the questions. Students who watch reality shows will actually enjoy writing an essay on the SAT because it is something that they are actually up to date on. Using Reality TV for an essay question on the SAT is not a good idea. Not all people watch reality TV, so they would have a harder time writing an essay over the topic. Elkins Newspaper. Having permission to 1798 essay on the of population influenced write about Kim Kardashian and Snooki, is nothing that should be written on a state assessment. Intermountain. Considering not all people even know who these people are it’s not a good idea. SAT essay question should be a topic over a current issue in the world or something that everyone knows about, not on reality TV. Having to write about a Reality TV show on steps paper such an important test, such as the newspaper SAT is not appropriate.
Some of the individuals who take the ucsd exam may not even watch TV at all, let alone Reality TV. I agree with the essay being essay prompt and it is only to show your own writing skills, but this concept may be hard to grasp with kids not knowing what they are even to write about. I believe it is such a broad subject, that not all kids are exposed to. It wouldn’t be fair for some of the newspaper test takers to how to solve problems get a better score just because they watch “The Situation” get in bar fights or Kim Kardashian try and find new hook-ups in the club. I think that using a question about reality TV on the SAT, I think, is a good idea. The SAT is already hard and people stress out about it so having a question like this is elkins, somthing everyone can answer and will know. When you write an essay on america essay you have to know what your talking about and be able to explain yourself and intermountain I think by having this on Media Report Analysis the SAT allowed students to really know what they are saying. The SAT is already hard enough and having a quetion that everyone would know really allowed students to be able to answer it instead of stressing out about the question and elkins intermountain not knowing. I think that using asking about reality TV on the SAT essay is a good idea because I think that people need to know about reality TV.
And If I was asked a question like that I would know a lot to write about because I watch a lot of reality TV. When you are asked a question like that most people will know how to customs answer that. Asking about reality TV doesn’t make matters worse, you will get a lot of good answers because of the fact a lot of teenagers are watching reality TV now a days. Elkins Intermountain. The SAT already has a lot of tough questions as it is and as an essay on america essay question it is always good to elkins intermountain get a question that people know about and would like to answer. I think that the question is a little “out there,” Students would be at a disadvantage if they didn’t watch reality TV. Ucsd Aip Research Paper. It really isn’t a very fair question to elkins intermountain write at length if you don’t watch what goes on. On the other hand, you would have to Media be really sheltered to not be able to answer the newspaper intermountain question at all. Students know what goes on in these shows even if they do not participate in watching them themselves. Any student who watches any TV can guess what goes on in these shows and they hear about it all the time. The SAT essay questions are there to show the students ability in writing.
This past year the in writing research paper essay questions were about reality TV, shows such as ‘Jersey Shore’ and elkins intermountain ‘Kourtney #038; Kim Take to steps a historical research paper New York’. In my opinion this can put students at a great disadvantage. Not everyone watches these shows, and newspaper that’s including me, a high school student. If the essay questions for the SAT’s are suppose to show the students ability in writing there should be a more general question to ask. I don’t think that this is a fair question at all some people wouldn’t be able to how to solve personal problems answer this because they don’t watch TV or don’t watch that kind of TV. Angela Garcia executive director of the SAT program said she didn’t find the question unfair for people who don’t have time to watch Jersey Shore or Kim Kardashian it would still be fair.
How is that fair if they have never watched that kind of show and elkins don’t know what it is steps a historical paper, about. The SAT and newspaper ACT need to come up with better questions to ask the students one that can and will apply to customs essays all students doing the ACT or SAT. Some sttudents taking the SAT this year definatley had a disadvantage. I can count atleast three kids in my very Highschool that do not have cable TV, for the very reason so they can study more on their work in school. Elkins Newspaper. So on a major test for student its not fair to brief essay ask them a question about reality telkevision. This bases nothing on newspaper knowlege and not only do that kids that dont have cable suffer from questions like this but also the ones who dont even watch TV and Analysis have it but would rather be more productive by enjoying the outdoors and elkins concentraing on school work and sports. In todays society there is a lot of reality television and plenty of people watch it, and its a fine topic to steps in writing paper talk about and comment on but it isn’t appropiate for a school essay that is newspaper intermountain, graded and helps you move farther in your education, it should be something that everyone is educated on. I think they should have used a different question on the SAT.
Mainly because not everyone watches reality T.V. shows. Not everything you would need to malthus's 1798 essay of population influenced darwin write the essay is in the prompt. This question would make students even more worried about the SATs and the fact that they could do really bad because they don’t watch reality shows. i agree with everything. I have a cousin that has had quite a colorful history in employment, and life in elkins newspaper, general, and I am pondering writing about some of these events. He has been an underwater welder (and had gotten the #8216;bends#8217; at one time); he#8217;s been a logger here in the rugged U.P. of Michigan (and still does this in how to solve, his #8220;off#8221; time), and is an airline pilot at elkins intermountain, Spirit Airlines now (current, but pretty much in the retirement side of his career). I was thinking about asking him if I could write up something about this colorful past (and current life, for that matter) that he has had. Can you offer any ideas or advice about this?

Writing Better University Essays/Referencing. By referencing the sources you use in your essay, you do a number of things. First of all, you comply with an academic convention. Secondly, you make your essay look more professional. In fact, it not only looks more professional, but its argument becomes more powerful. Thirdly, you allow others to check your sources. This is often only a hypothetical issue, but a look through the list of elkins newspaper your references will allow others to judge your argument quickly. Fourthly, you acknowledge your sources and thus admit that like everyone else, you’re a dwarf on the shoulders of the giants. The essential bits of referencing require you to provide enough information to others so that they can identify the source. What exactly is meant by enough is open to debate, and this is also where conventions come in. Essays Toronto! Essential is that you do provide references.
Ideally, you would do so properly. It’s not so difficult, and the sooner you get into the habit of referencing, the better. There are two forms to do the referencing: including them as footnotes, or use a variation of the Harvard system. Elkins! Your institution may have a preference, or even a house style. Essays! In most cases, your markers will be happy with a consistent and appropriate system. The Harvard system is also known as author/date, and will be described here in more detail. Within your essay, whenever you make a statement that is essentially based on somebody else’s work, you should attribute the source.
You do this by stating the author(s) and the year of the elkins publication you consulted. Where the name of the author occurs naturally in the text, it does not need to be repeated. The references are usually included at the end of a sentence, or where inappropriate in a place where the Report Analysis text flow is not interrupted too much, such as in front of intermountain a comma. This may be necessary, for example, if only the first half of your sentence is based on someone else’s work. Switzerland seems to be the ideal place for personal problems studying the effects of direct democracy, since no other country has gone as far in terms of implementing such means (Franklin, 2002). The name of the author is elkins newspaper, included in brackets, together with the year of publication.
Some styles put a comma between the two, others just a space: (Franklin 2002). Where there are two authors, both names are included: (McLanahan Sandefur, 1994). Some styles prefer the word and , others prefer the ampersand ( symbol). Where there are more than two authors, the name of the first author is given, followed by et al. (which literally means and Media Analysis, others ): (Almeder et al. , 2001). Intermountain! Some styles put et al. into italics, others don’t. If you have two or more references for customs essays toronto the same argument, you should separate the references with a semicolon (; symbol): (McLanahan Sandefur, 1994; Steinberg, 1999). If there are very many references to an argument, use your own judgement to select the most relevant ones. What should you reference? Basically references should be included to any argument made by someone else, including numbers you cite.
However, statements of elkins newspaper intermountain general nature need not be attributed to ucsd paper, anyone. A statement that the sky is elkins newspaper, blue alone does not require a reference. However, if you state that the sky is blue because of Report Analysis a specific reason, then you should include a reference. If you use the intermountain exact words of an author (quotation), you’ll need to give the number of the page where you copy from. This is needed so anyone can quickly check the original words, should he or she feel so. See the separate section on quotes. It’s not uncommon that you want to use the arguments of say Max Weber, even though you have not actually read this particular book. Strictly speaking, you should not reference Weber’s work for such a statement, because you have not actually read it. Can you really be sure this is Report Analysis, what Weber said or meant? The technically correct trick is to add cited in after the reference: (Weber, 1918, cited in Hamilton, 2002).
You should always reference the work you consulted, and this includes the elkins newspaper intermountain year of publication. Many books are published in their second and third editions, so giving the correct year can be helpful. Similarly, even if a book is merely a reprint by a different publisher, give the a historical paper year of the edition you consulted. The page numbers may differ. If it’s just a second print of the exact same book, use the original date. Some readers find this unsatisfactory, since Weber surely did not publish anything this year. The convention to circumvent this issue is to give both years: the year of the original publication, together with the newspaper one of the work you consulted.
Sometimes slashes are used between the dates (/ sign), others prefer the thomas malthus's on the of population greatly used of intermountain square brackets ([ and ucsd aip research paper, ] sign): Burke (2004/1774) or Burke (2004 ). Another small issue occurs where an author published more than one book or article in a single year, and you want to cite more than one of elkins intermountain them. The trick here is to add letters from the alphabet after the year to identify which of the works you refer to. Use the letter a for Media Report the first of newspaper your references, the letter b for the second and how to solve, so on: (McManus, 1994a) and (McManus, 1994b) are two different works. To sum it up, inside the text, you give the family name of the author, followed by the year of the publication. Elkins! Always cite the text you consulted, because in essay, the end it’s your responsibility that the references are correct. At the newspaper end of your essay you should include a list of references. Such a list of references provides more details than just the name of the author and the year of publication. In Writing! It’s this list that allows identifying the work cited. Each work you cited in the essay is elkins, cited once, and listed in alphabetical order. Note that a bibliography and list of references is not technically the same.
A bibliography is a list of relevant sources that may or may not be cited in the main text. References are the aip research sources you cited, even if they are rather trivial. Use the heading references for your references. For books, you put the family name of the author(s) and their initials, followed by the year of newspaper intermountain publication in brackets, the title in italics, the place of publication, and finally the name of the publisher. If there are editors, give their names instead of the authors’. If there is a subtitle to the title, this is usually separated using colons (: sign). Essays! Where there are more than four authors, it’s common to elkins, use et al. after the first three, but some styles insist on citing all authors.
Sometimes a book is co-published by two publishers, and this can be indicated by using a slash (/ sign). Where you give the editors rather than the actual authors, you indicate this by adding (eds) after their names, or (ed.) if there is only one. Thomas 1798 Work Principle Of Population Influenced Darwin! The title is capitalized. For example: Anderson, C. Zelle, C. (eds) (1998) Stability and Change in German Elections: How Electorates Merge, Converge, or Collide , London, Praeger. Granovetter, M. Newspaper! (1974) Getting a Job: A Study of Contacts and Careers , Chicago, Chicago University Press. Grass, G. (1963) Katz und Maus , Neuwied am Rhein, Rowolth/Hermann Leuchterhand. Hall, S. (ed.) (1997) Representation: Cultural Representations and Signifying Practices , London, Sage.
Halsey, A., Heath, A. Ridge, J. In Writing A Historical Research Paper! (1980) Origins and elkins newspaper intermountain, Destinations , Oxford, Clarendon Press. Chapters in a book are cited separately, especially if the book is edited. You give the family name of the author and his or her initial, the year, the name of the steps paper chapter in single speech marks (‘ and ’ sign; not capitalized), followed by the word in , and the name and year of the editor(s). If you cite only one chapter, you can give the whole reference at the end; otherwise it’s enough to newspaper intermountain, give the name and year of the editor. In this case, however, the book itself needs to be included in brief essay on america, the list of references, too. For example: Allen, J. (1995) ‘Global worlds’ in Allen, J. Massey, D. (eds) (1995). Hardin, R. (1990) ‘Public choice versus democracy’ in Chapman, J. Wertheimer, A. (eds) (1990). Leroy, P. Verhagen, K. (2003) ‘Environmental politics: Society’s capacity for political response’ in Blowers, A. Hinchliffe, S. (eds) (2003) Environmental Responses , Chichester, Wiley.
An entry in elkins newspaper intermountain, a printed encyclopaedia or a dictionary can be cited if it was a chapter in a book. The editors are often given on the front of the reference book. For example: Jackman, R. (2001) ‘Social capital’ in Smelser, N. Report! Baltes, P. (eds) (2004). Journal articles are cited in a way that is quite similar to chapters in intermountain, a book. The main difference really is customs essays toronto, that details about the volume and page numbers are included, too. The reference starts with the name and initial of the author, the year in brackets, the title of the newspaper intermountain article in single speech marks (not capitalized), followed by the name of the journal in italics (capitalized), and further details.
The details of journals are commonly abbreviated as follows: the volume number followed by a colon and the page numbers of the article. If there are different numbers to a volume, this is indicated by including it in brackets before the colon, if known. Online journals may not have page numbers. For example: Burt, R. (1987) ‘Social contagion and innovation: Cohesion versus structural equivalence’, American Journal of Sociology , 92:1287–335. Thoits, P. Hewitt, L. (2001) ‘Volunteer work and well-being’, Journal of Media Report Health and Social Behaviour , 42(2):115–31. Elkins Newspaper Intermountain! Small, C. (1999) ‘Finding an invisible history: A computer simulation experiment (in virtual Polynesia)’, Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation , 2(3). Valente, T. Media Analysis! (1996) ‘Social network thresholds in elkins newspaper intermountain, the diffusion of information’, Social Networks , 18(1):69–89. Pages on the internet should be cited where used. You should bear in toronto, mind the quality of the site before citing from it, but if you use a web site, reference it, too.
There are many internet sites that are perfectly acceptable as sources for elkins newspaper intermountain your essays. The reference includes the name of the author and initial, the Analysis year in brackets, the title of the document in elkins newspaper intermountain, italics, the word online in square brackets, the place of publication, the publisher, the words available from : followed by Report the URL, and the date when the intermountain document was accessed in brackets. The date is important, because unlike printed works, web sites often change their content or even disappear. Many web sites include a copyright note at the bottom, giving you an indication when the content was written. For example:
Moser, P. (2005) Politik im Kanton Zurich—eine Synthese [online], Zurich, Statistisches Amt des Kantons Zurich, available from: http://web.archive.org/web/20051224111845/http://www.statistik.zh.ch/statistik.info/pdf/2005_15.pdf [accessed 27th October 2005]. Chan, T. Goldthorpe, J. (2004) Social Status and Newspaper Readership [online], Oxford, Oxford University, available from: http://users.ox.ac.uk/ sfos0006/papers/news4.pdf [accessed 31st March 2005]. Newspaper articles are very similar to journal articles in in writing research paper, the way they are cited. The key difference is that rather than the volume, the date is given. Elkins Intermountain! The reference therefore includes the name and initial of the author, the year of publication in brackets, the title in single speech marks, the name of the newspaper in italics (capitalized), the date, and finally the steps a historical page where the article was found. For one page it’s customary to intermountain, use the abbreviation p. Customs! , for articles running over newspaper two or more pages, the brief on america abbreviation pp. is common. Elkins Intermountain! For example: Cockburn, P. Usborne, D. (2004) ‘Burning with anger: Iraqis infuriated by new flag that was designed in London’, The Independent , 28th April, pp.2–3. Handouts from a lecture can be referenced and essays, should be referenced if they are used as the basis of what you write.
It’s normally a better idea not to use lecture notes, but try to find the elkins intermountain original referred to customs, in the lecture. Not only elkins newspaper, will you have more control over what was actually said, but also can your readers more easily access books and journal article than lecture handouts. The reference to a lecture handout includes the brief name and initial of the lecturer, the year in intermountain, bracket, the title of the handout in single speech marks, the words lecture notes distributed in followed by the name of the course in thomas influenced, italics, the word at and the name of your institution, the place, and date of the lecture. For example: Burt, S. (2005) ‘Survey sampling and administration’, lecture notes distributed in Survey Research Methods at Cambridge University, Cambridge, 9th February 2005. Personal conversations are not commonly considered good sources, but if they are what you use as the basis of your essay, you should include such conversations. It’s usually a good idea to have another reference to a printed piece, but sometimes this is not an elkins intermountain, option.
In terms of giving the reference, personal conversations are very easy: the name of the person you spoke to, the year in brackets, the words conversation with the author and the date of the conversation. For example: Smith, E. (2004) conversation with the author 6th July 2004. The same format can also be used for personal e-mail, or instant messengers. Media Report! Once again, bear in mind the credibility of your sources. With e-mail messages it’s customary to include the e-mail address of the sender in brackets after the elkins name, but it’s essential that you obtain consent from the author.
The subject line of the brief essay e-mail is often included as the title. With all forms of personal conversation, the issue of consent is important. Newspaper! It’s always a very good idea to check with the author first. There are sometimes cases that are not so straightforward as the average book or journal article. How To Solve Problems! For everything there is elkins, a solution in the academic conventions. If you refer to musical works, television programmes, or pieces of art, check with your institution how this should be done. If everything else fails, remember the malthus's 1798 work essay on the darwin function of referencing, and provide a reasonable amount of information for others to chase the work.
Common problems include the lack of newspaper authors, unpublished documents, or lack of publisher. Where there is no author, often there is an organization. Put the how to solve personal problems name of the organization. If there is no-one, it’s customary to put the word “Anon” instead of the author’s name. For example: IDEA (1998) Women in newspaper, Parliament: Beyond Numbers [online], Stockholm, International IDEA, available from: http://archive.idea.int/women/parl/toc.htm [accessed 28th February 2006].
UN Statistics Division (2006) Social Indicators [online], New York, UN Statistics Division, available from: http://unstats.un.org/unsd/demographic/products/socind/inc-eco.htm [accessed 20th February 2006]. Sometimes the year of thomas 1798 work on the greatly influenced a document is not known. Where you have a rough idea, you can put a c before the newspaper intermountain date, such as in how to solve problems, (c.1999). Where you just have no clue, there is elkins intermountain, no need to panic: simply put the word unknown instead of the year. Documents that are unpublished as such, for example a thesis or a draft article you were sent, should come with the indication that they are not published. This is ucsd paper, easily done by including the word unpublished in brackets at the end of the reference.
With articles sent to newspaper intermountain, you, you should always ask permission to cite; just like you would with an ordinary e-mail. For theses it’s common to include the kind of thesis after the title, such as PhD thesis or MA thesis . Where the name or place of the publisher is 1798 essay principle of population, unknown a very simple solution is newspaper intermountain, used: leave the information blank. This is particularly an issue with internet sites. Including the customs toronto URL is in this case much more helpful than trying to guess the name of the publisher. Course materials provided to you are treated very similar to newspaper, the lecture handouts.
Give the Analysis name of the author, the year in newspaper, brackets, the course code if there is one, the course title in customs essays toronto, italics (capitalized), the kind of material and elkins intermountain, its title in single speech marks, place of publication, and solve problems, publisher. For example: Peake, S. Elkins! (2003) U216 Environment , Video 4 ‘Shanghai Boom’, Milton Keynes, The Open University. The Open University (2004) DD305 Personal Lives and Social Policy , CD-ROM 2 ‘Interviews and Interviewing’, Milton Keynes, The Open University. The capitalization of a historical titles may seem a bit confusing, but it follows a simple logic: it’s the main title that is newspaper intermountain, capitalized.
In the essays case of a book, the elkins main title is Report, that of the newspaper book. Steps Paper! In the case of journal articles, on the other hand, the main title is thought to elkins newspaper, be that of the journal itself. It might be confusing that within the journal, the title of an article often is essays toronto, capitalized. Capitalization is not very hard to achieve. Put in capital letters are all nouns, proper names, the intermountain first word, verbs, and adjectives. This is in fact almost everything. Not put in capital letters are words like and , in , or , or with . Unfortunately most word processors don’t capitalize properly when told to, and put every single word in paper, capital letters, including the ands and withins that should not come with capital letters.
Different publishers have different house styles, and newspaper intermountain, you might come across a title with a word you would normally spell differently. This is steps in writing a historical paper, common with British and American variants, but there are other words, too, such as post-modernity . No matter how strongly you might disagree with the spelling, you should always use the original spelling in the references. It’s perfectly fine to change them in your essay itself, but not in the references. A good manual of style, such as the Oxford Style Manual (Ritter, 2003) will be able to give you further guidance. Many course providers have their own preferences or house styles, and it’s advisable to elkins, follow these conventions. Where there are no house styles, using a system such as the one outlined in this guide in a consistent manner will be well received. You’ll find full references to every work mentioned in customs, this book at the end. It’s difficult to write about referencing without mentioning plagiarism.
Plagiarism describes the act or result where you take the words or ideas of somebody else and newspaper intermountain, present them as your own. Plagiarism is considered serious academic misconduct and in writing a historical research paper, can be punished severely. Most importantly, however, your reputation is on the line. The origin of the word plagiarism gives you an elkins intermountain, idea what others will think of you when you plagiarize. The word goes back to the Latin plagiarius , a thief and Media Report Analysis, kidnapper—in particular a child snatcher and somebody abducting slaves. The modern use in academia brands you a literary thief (OED, 2005). There are a number of reasons why plagiarism occurs.
The worst case is deliberate plagiarism (for whatever reason). Careless work may lead to plagiarism, but is not commonly considered as severe an offence as the deliberate case. Newspaper! Careless work is often a sign of students working too closely to the original, and this can be easily remedied. Brief Essay On America! Without changing your habit, simply by including references to newspaper, where you got the ideas from, and putting speech marks where you quote, you technically are done. In practice, you still might rely too much on the original and not deliver as good an essay as you could. Deliberate plagiarism, often motivated by laziness, can’t be remedied directly. At the time, it may seem a reasonable risk to copy from the internet, but is it really worth it? Bear in how to solve personal problems, mind that there is elkins newspaper intermountain, something in for you, too—that is something in addition to the grades. The more you write, the easier it gets. If you work too closely to the original, there is a simple solution: don’t write the essay with the books in front of you. By so doing, there is very little danger that you copy word by word.
In a way, you force yourself to make the material your own: and that is a good thing—it makes a better argument, your essay will be more original, and not least, you’ll also get better grades. Rather than having the original works in front of you, try using your notes. As you still will need to put those references for the ideas you take from others, make a note whenever you do so. I use brackets with three X inside, to remind myself that I need to how to problems, put a proper reference. Often I remember very well who said this, so I include, for example, (Granovetter XXX) inside the text.
When checking the newspaper essay, it’s hard not to notice the triple X; and there is always the search facility in a historical, the word processor. By putting a place holder, I can get on with the job of writing without interrupting my thoughts. Equally important, I leave some traces indicating to myself that there is some more work to elkins, be done: finding the proper reference, for example. If you think plagiarism is hard to customs, detect by your marker, think again. Intermountain! There are a great number of thomas 1798 work on the signs that give plagiarized work away. Technology-wise, your markers are likely to have the same possibilities than you have if not more. If you can copy and elkins newspaper, paste something you found on personal problems, the internet, it’s equally easy for your marker to find it on a search engine, again. It would, of elkins newspaper intermountain course, be possible, to change plagiarized work to the extent that the deed is no longer easy to spot.
Usually, however, this is just as much work as writing the on america essay yourself. Just to give you an idea, the markers of newspaper intermountain your essay will not only have access to Report, the same search engines than you have. There is software to scan essays for duplicates; and many institutes even have access to essay banks (sites on the internet where complete essays are sold). The most successful tool, however, is probably the human brain with its incredible ability to remember. If you copy from a colleague, chances are that your marker has read this one, too.
If you copy from a set reading, chances are that your marker has read this one, too. Newspaper Intermountain! Knowing what is on the reading list helps spot essays that refer to other works a great deal, or don’t refer to steps a historical research, some of the core reading. Your marker can estimate how many readings you had time to read, or whether you’re likely to have read a great number of papers on the Belgian perspective of whatever issues is set in the question. An even easier sign is having the same paragraph twice in the same essay, for elkins example. There are more subtle signs, too, such as sudden changes in style or formatting.
Many people are unaware of aip research paper how idiosyncratic one’s writing style is. They are in fact so individual that writing styles can be used to determine how many people wrote a document, such as the Christian Bible (Jakoblich, 2001). Elkins Newspaper Intermountain! Writing style includes the tenses we use, the level of formality, our own choice of words, the kinds of ucsd metaphors we put, whether we use American or British English, choices over punctuation, the length of sentences, or the use of specialist terms. Typographic signs include font size, choices of where to break paragraphs, spaces in between lines, and things like proper m- and n-dashes (when copying from electronic articles). The presence or lack of newspaper references is often an easy sign: for brief on america example, where there are many references inside the text, but few at the end, or where the elkins newspaper citation style changes within a single essay. A marker may get suspicious where there is suddenly a section with many references, or suddenly none. Sometimes, students even include hyperlinks in references when copying from electronic journals; and have them automatically underlined by the word processor. Even where you take care of these issues, a paragraph copied from the internet will very unlikely link well with the rest of your essay. The style may be inappropriate, or just different. Essays from an essay bank may be internally consistent, but very rarely are they really relevant to the exact question you have been set.
In summary, you can avoid plagiarism easily. In Writing A Historical Paper! This is done by writing freely without having the books right in front of you. Instead, work with your notes, and take care to newspaper intermountain, put references where you use the 1798 work essay on the principle greatly influenced darwin ideas from others. Don’t use the internet to copy from, no matter how tempting it is. Newspaper! It will hardly ever be worth it.
There is an important difference between citations and quotations. Unfortunately, confusion is commonplace; and the terms are frequently used incorrectly. Knowing your citations from your quotations is useful when writing essays. It’s essential, in fact, if you want to reference properly. Citations are about ideas you take from others.
Quotations are about the exact words used by others. This is really the whole distinction. So, when using your own words, you cite; when you use the words of someone else, you quote. “Why can’t a man be more like a woman?” (Blankenhorn, 1995, p.117) is a quotation, because I use the exact same words Blankenhorn did. However, when stating that families in the US are increasingly defined by the absence of a father (Blankenhorn, 1995), I only thomas malthus's, use the idea, not the exact words. When putting a reference, the difference between a citation and a quotation is that for a quotation we always put a page number. This is done to enable the reader to check the words in the original context.
In the list of elkins newspaper intermountain references at the end of the text, there is no difference. Short quotations are included in ucsd, the text, and enclosed by speech marks. Longer quotations are set apart from the main text by indenting the quotations, and usually putting in a slightly smaller font. Longer means about 3 to 4 lines or more. For example: It is true that many voters may be voting for reasons wholly unconnected with social inequalities in any of the three dimensions. They may attach greater importance to newspaper intermountain, some specific issue such as foreign affairs, or they may vote out of personal reasons or habits with which egalitarianism has nothing to do.
